Baby Charlie | Charlottesville Newborn Photographer

My family first met this precious baby's parents soon after we moved to Charlottesville. At the time, we were learning to navigate life with a toddler and a newborn, while they were newlyweds trying to navigate that crazy first years of marriage. We were in the same community group through our church, and I remember imagining what amazing parents they would be one day. I secretly hoped that when they announced they were buying home and were moving out toward Crozet, it was because they were wanting to start a family soon.

My heart broke for them last year when they told friends that they had recently find out they were pregnant but had miscarried their first baby. Through the darkness, their faith was incredible and inspiring as they continued to be a light to others through their reliance on the Lord. Everyone was overjoyed at the announcement of their pregnancy with sweet Charlie, and it was truly such an honor to be able to photograph this precious baby girl!

A rainbow baby is a baby born after a miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death - the rainbow after a storm. When Mae asked me to photograph their newborn session, I knew I wanted to find a way to celebrate Charlie as a rainbow baby while staying true to my classic and timeless style of newborn photography. I came across this headband and immediately knew it would be perfect for Charlie's sweet session.

Most of my newborn sessions take place when the baby is between 5 and 15 days old, but sometimes things may come up for the family that prevent that from being possible, as was the case for sweet Charlie. I assured Mae not to worry and that we would be able to capture beautiful images for her session, regardless. It would just take some patience and persistence, and I encouraged them to follow my newborn prep guide closely for their session. Charlie ended up being three weeks old when I drove to their home in Crozet for their in-home, studio style session, and she really did amazingly.

This was definitely one of those sessions where I walked away feeling blessed just by getting to spend time with such a precious family. I am so thankful for the opportunity to photograph precious Charlie, and I look forward to see that sweet little baby grow into a darling little girl!
